Simple smiles

Doesn't everyone want to do a good job in their work?
Create bonds. Share laughter. Teach and learn. Inspire?
And be remembered.
I got an e-mail today from one of my favourite 7th grade students whom I taught last year.
He always puts a smile on my face.

Cry Cry Cry

1. Friends who make dinner plans and make sure you show up and give you hugs when you do. Friends who let you take over their couch for the weekend when you dont want to be by yourself.  Friends who send warm and fuzzy text messages every day to let you know you're not alone. Friends who will drink a cold one with you way into the night and wont stop until you do.

2. A couple days and nights immersed in endless smoke, booze, and questionable people.

3. Treating yourself to something highly extravagant you would never buy and almost can't afford.

4.Sulking at home in bed listening to love-scorned European boy bands and Adele.

5. Read self-help books disguised as great literature while envisioning the newer and better you as you wait for Time to do its magic.

This was my "five step guide" to getting over the worst part of a break up in a souless city that will pummel and pound its weakest link.

But I couldnt have done it alone.
I have also sought comfort, solace, and guidance from a man much older and much wiser than myself.  I leaned into his soothing voice and wise words like a flower leans towards the sun.  A man who has learned his place within this world while I have yet to learn mine.  His name is Cash. Johnny Cash.  He whispered his deep husky voice in my ear as together we walked the line, and he held me close while I cried cried and cried.  I went down down down until the flames went higher.
He had a beast within him caged with frail and fragile bars and we tried hard not to fall into a burning ring of fire. And Ill walk out a weaker wiser man.
But he is just a voice now and I am getting older still, searcing for a heart of gold while everyone, in the end, goes away.

My sweetest friend.

"It was beautiful as great forgiveness."
