To my dad,
You're pretty cool.
Thanks for being the Terminator when I was growing up and scaring the bejeesus out of me.
Thanks for letting me dye my hair pink, blue, red, and green.
Thanks for putting mom in her place when I was travelling Asia.
Thanks for calling me to remind me I missed Mother's Day and how disappointed I made her. (And you.)
Thanks for being my personal chauffeur. I promise one day I will get my driver's license.
Thanks for being ambitious and the dreamer.
Thanks for uprooting us so we could grow up in Canada.
Thanks for changing the light-bulbs in my bedroom when they would burn out.
Thanks for killing big spiders and centipedes I would find in the bathroom. Wait a minute, that could have been mom. (That probably was mom.)
Thanks for making me study in school.
Thanks for turning a blind eye when I made shit happen.
Thanks for thinking I can do and be anything. Thanks for the evolution from an old world dictator to the new world feminist.
Thanks for loving my brothers more. It's alright; I know I have to work for it.
And thanks for all those camping trips, fishing trips, trips to the beach, and birthday cakes.
And most importantly, thanks for still loving me when I fuck up which has happened a lot and will happen more often. Sorry for not quite turning into what you expected. Sorry for being a bit of a disappointment. Maybe I can make things still right. And really, I'm sorry I forgot to call mom on her birthday.
Happy dad's day!
Love,
your daughter.
